Empowering and enriching this international women’s day

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women’s achievements and prioritise our well-being. This year, we invite you to experience the transformative power of mindful relaxation, connection and community.

As we come together to mark this important day, we reflect on the progress made towards gender equality and the importance of supporting each other in our personal and professional journeys.

Gather For Good

In support of UN Women, Alba hosted over 100 guests at Gather for Good breakfasts this week in the spa lounge, which set the stage for a day of balance.

Host your own meaningful gathering

Extend the celebration beyond Alba by hosting your own Gather for Good event to support UN Women. Here’s how:

  • Choose a simple, meaningful gathering idea (spa day, picnic, yoga session, book club) that resonates with your group’s interests and values.
  • Register your event at https://www.iwd.net.au/gatherforgood to be part of a global movement.
  • Invite guests and encourage donations to support UN Women’s initiatives, fostering a sense of community and purpose.
  • Celebrate and connect on your chosen day in March.
  • Share stories and experiences of remarkable women in your lives, honouring their achievements and inspiring others.

Hosting your own event not only raises funds for UN Women but also creates an opportunity for meaningful connections and conversations about women’s empowerment

If you’re hosting your own Gather for Good event, why not treat your group to a delicious Karen Martini Green Smoothie? Find the recipe below and enjoy sharing a meal that brings everyone closer together.

Disconnect to Reconnect

In today’s hyper-connected world, excessive social media use can contribute to anxiety and depression, particularly in young women. This IWD, we encourage you to disconnect from devices and reconnect with yourself. Leave your phone in your locker and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of our thermal pools, engaging in mindful conversations or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance. Research suggests that taking regular breaks from digital devices can improve mental wellbeing, reduce stress and enhance overall life satisfaction.

For tips on managing a successful digital detox, see The Conversation’s article on overcoming device dependency and explore ways to maintain a healthy balance between technology use and personal well-being.

The Science of Women’s Social Connection

Research consistently shows that strong social connections are vital for women’s wellbeing. Recent studies have explored how women’s social ties benefit their physical, psychological and relationship health. Women often ‘tend-and-befriend’ during stress, seeking and offering support. Female friendships usually involve deeper self-disclosure and emotional support, providing numerous health benefits.

Mindfulness and Perimenopause

Mindfulness-based practices, such as meditation and mindful movement, have been shown to reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and alleviate mood symptoms in women experiencing perimenopause, according to research published in Menopause in late 2024.

These practices offer a holistic approach to managing the physical and emotional changes that occur during this life stage. By incorporating mindfulness into your daily routine, you can enhance your overall wellbeing and better navigate life’s challenges.

Alba offers experiences designed to cultivate mindfulness, including:

  • Guided breath and meditation sessions to centre your mind and body, helping you find calm
  • Mindful movement like Qi Gong and gentle stretching to release tension and promote flexibility, ensuring a balanced body and mind
  • Immersive spa rituals for deep relaxation, providing a serene escape

Join us for Wellbeing Wednesdays to extend your mindfulness practice.

This International Women’s Day, we look forward to welcoming you as we celebrate the remarkable women in our lives and continue to support each other on our journey towards a more inclusive and equitable world.
